Pleating is the detail that separates a considered shade from a cheap one. Each fold catches the light at a slightly different angle, so the shade has depth when it is lit and texture when it isn't — a difference you notice at nine in the evening rather than on a product page.

The turned wood base keeps the weight low and the silhouette quiet. Sized for a bedside table or a console; at 13.8 in (35 cm) across it wants a surface with a little room around it.
